Dr. James A. Hoke DDS
Dr. James Hoke graduated from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He re received his Prosthodontics training in 1976 at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Gifted enough to become Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina he continued to serve as Clinical Assistant Professor even after establishing his own private practice in 1981. He became head of the Dentistry Section of Duke University in 1986. In 1998 Dr. Hoke relocated his practice to their present location.
Dr. James Hoke is affiliated with many professional organizations. These include the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontics, North Carolina Dental Society, and the Rotary Club. He spends countless hours with these organizations to continue his education and remain on the forefront on Prosthodontic care. He has done mission work in Honduras on occasion.
When he is not participating in dental related activities Dr. James Hoke greatly enjoys restoring old cars to their former glory. He is a bee keeper and loves spending time with his family. He has two grown children. His daughter Sarah lives in Atlanta and is an Architect while his son Ethan resides in Philadelphia working as a Horticulturist.

Our Staff is genuinely amazing. They are professional and personable, confident and gentle. With great heart they make sure that every patient is given the care and attention they deserve. Judy Lantz , Registered Dental Hygienist
Judy has been a hygienist for 25 years. She graduated in 1986 from Miami Dade College in Miami Florida. She enjoys building relationships with patients and educating them about their oral health. Judy also strives for patients to have a relaxed and comfortable experience when having their teeth cleaned. She has never lived anywhere else but Florida, and never but 2 miles from the beach, but she has relocated to Durham to be closer to her 2 grandsons and a new granddaughter. She has 2 daughters the older is married living in Asheville. Her younger daughter is in the Occupational Therapy program at the University of Florida. She is a die hard Gators fan and loves football season. Go Gators! She also has 2 very spoiled dachshunds Lucy and Ricky. She has never seen the change of seasons and has only experienced snow twice so she has a new experience in store!
Misty Richardson-Brookshire, Registered Dental Hygienist
Misty is a North Carolina native with almost 10 years of Dental Hygiene experience. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. “ Educating patients on how to care for their teeth is the most important part of my job”. “I love to pass on what I have learned in an effort to help others improve their dental health and lives”.
Val Williams, Registered Dental Hygienist
Val graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1978 with a BS in Dental Hygiene. She grew up in Chapel Hill and has never left the area. Her main passion for hygiene is getting to know the patient’s individual personalities and needs. She prides herself on remembering things about their families and their interests. She has three grown children living in Atlana and a new daughter in law . She loves playing tennis in her free time.
Rosemary Berger – Practice Manager and Treatment Coordinator
Rosemary has over 40 years of experience in dentistry, first as a dental assistant then practice administrator. Rosemary is a member of the American Association of Dental Office Managers and has served in the past on the Wake County Community College Advisory Board for their Dental Assisting program. She has been with this practice for 9 years. Rosemary enjoys spending time with her husband and their 4 grandchildren.
Brenda Spruill DAII – Clinical Manager
Brenda is our clinical manager and lead dental assistant. She worked with Dr. Hoke at Duke Medical Center before marrying and moving away to be closer to the beach. When she returned to Durham she joined the practice and picked up where she left off. She’s been with Dr. Hoke for 7 years. Brenda’s cheerful laugh brightens up our day.
Gail Augustine, DAII
Gail is one of our dental assistants. Gail came to us a year ago from a general dental practice and has been learning Prosthodontics. Gail keeps very busy with her work here and enjoys our patients. Her hobbies are rock climbing with her husband and running. Gail and her hubby have 4 children and a son-in–law.
Roy Hoover – Lab Technician
Roy has over 30 years in dentistry. This includes 17 years at the Dental School of UNC- Chapel Hill NC. His experience lies both in removable prosthetics and orthodontics. He studies dental Lab Technology at Durham Technical College. Roy also has his BS degree in computer science from Penn State University. When not at work Roy enjoys brewing homemade beer and bowling
